Starting today, Massachusetts residents are required to wear face coverings when out in public places where social distancing is not an option. That includes the city of Greenfield, where Mayor Roxann Wedegartner says a mask order is in effect in accordance with an executive order issued last week by Governor Baker.  That order does not dictate that masks must be worn at all times while outside.  But only where social distancing, that is remaining 6 feet away from everyone you come across, is not possible.

“The city of Greenfield will not be issuing any fines to those that do not wear face coverings,: Wedegartner said, adding that the Greenfield Police Department will work to enforce the mask order, in conjunction with the city’s Health Departmrnt.

Wedegartner added that mask enforcement will be done on a case by case basis. Any resident in need of face covering can contact the city’s Emergency Operations Center.
