GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield’s Community Preservation Committee has voted on their recommendations for the FY2024 Community Preservation Act (CPA) projects with $300,000 available. Recommended projects include a $125,000 renovation of Hillside Park, $35,000 to renovate the Garden Cinemas’ facade, and three housing projects totaling over $90,000.
The CPA was adopted in Greenfield in 2020 and levies a 3% surcharge on property taxes that is then allocated for historical, recreational/open space, or housing projects, which must be supported by the community. For this year’s round of CPA funding, the largest historical project rescinded their application. The Franklin Community Co-op had applied for $200,000 to renovate the facade of the former Wilson’s building. They withdrew their application citing reasons of an unclear project timeline and the desire to see other projects get funding.
City Council will vote on the funding recommendations at their April 17th meeting.
