(Greenfield, MA) — Greenfield’s mayor says she is opposed to any effort by the Legislature to split the city into two legislative districts. Mayor Roxann Wedegartner says she plans to formally oppose the current redistricting plan that splits Greenfield between the First and Second Franklin House districts.
“Greenfield is the largest community in our county, and we also were one of the few communities to gain population in the latest census. In no uncertain terms I am opposed to the City being split in half . We should be a cornerstone for any House Legislative District.” , said the Mayor. “I hope our City Council and other citizens of Greenfield will join me in opposition during the public comment period.”
The city is currently part of the Second Berkshire District, which is represented by Paul Mark. Legislative hearings are currently being held on the plan, and public comment is being accepted until October 18th at 5 pm.
