GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Week 2 of the local high school football season is in the books, and it featured strong Opening Night performances by a pair of local schools.
The Franklin Tech Eagles rode the arm of quarterback Tyler Yetter and the legs of running back Josiah Little to a resounding 42-6 victory over McCann Tech in Turners Falls. Yetter threw three first-half touchdown passes to three difference receivers: Nolyn Stafford, Hunter Donahue, and Ethan Smarr. Little ran for 181 yards and pair of touchdowns in the blowout victory. The Eagles travel to South Deerfield Friday night to take on the Frontier Red Hawks at 7. You can hear that game live on Bear Country 95.3, or stream it live at bear953,com.
The Athol Bears, like Franklin Tech, made the postseason last year, and are looking to expand on that success this season. The Bears opened at Murdock Friday night and cruised to a 48-16 win. Aiden Melanson threw touchdown passes to Logan Cormier, Raydin Sousa, and Ethan Goodwin, while Hayden Barrieau ran for 101 yards and two scores. The Bears play Pathfinder on Friday night.
The Greenfield Green Wave opened at Chicopee and were pounded by the Pacers, 30-6. Chicopee had a huge advantage in time of possession and capitalized on their scoring chances. The Wave will be at South Hadley Friday night.
