(Greenfield, MA) — The Jordana Harper era in the Greenfield public schools is over. Greenfield School Committee Chairwoman Amy Proietti announced Monday that the district and Harper have reached mutual agreement on her departure from the district, effective February 19th. Harper has been out of office for several weeks after suffering a work-related back injury. She has served as Greenfield super for the past seven years. The committee has named Judy Houle as interim superintendent. She most recently served as Executive Director of the Commonwealth Virtual School.

The following is the full text of the school committee’s statement:

The Greenfield School Committee and Superintendent Jordana Harper have come to an amicable agreement that concluded their relationship as of February 19, 2021. The Committee wishes the Superintendent well on her future endeavors and thanks her for her years of service on behalf of the Greenfield Public Schools. Dr. Harper is pleased and proud to have served the children and citizens of Greenfield for the past 7 years.
In securing a smooth transition of leadership and stability, the School Committee has appointed Dr, Judy Houle as interim superintendent.
Dr. Houle previously served as superintendent in Belchertown and Granby. She is a former executive director of the Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School and has also served as curriculum director in three districts in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont.
“We are pleased to have such a capable and experienced educational leader manage the day to day operations of running the school system during this transition,” said School Committee Chair Amy Proietti. “The school committee is quite confident our school system is in good hands while we begin our search for the next leader of the Greenfield Public Schools.”

The School Committee will have no further comment at this time.
