GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The local high school basketball season is underway, as several teams have had their first games of the 2024-2025 season.
Last season, several local teams went very deep into the state tournament, and with most of the teams returning a lot of talent, we could very well see a repeat performance this year.
The Pioneer boys, who made it to the Division 6 Final Four last spring, opened the season with a 93-20 pounding of Mount Greylock on Friday night. The Frontier boys opened with a 60-58 victory over Easthampton in the Tip-Off Classic at the Mullins Center, while the Redhawk girls also were victorious over Easthampton, 56-39.
The Franklin Tech boys won just twice last season, but opened with a win last week against St. Mary’s in the Eagle Holiday Classic before falling to Ware on Saturday. The Franklin Tech girls won their opener against McCann Tech before losing to Mount Greylock.
The high school basketball broadcast season begins Tuesday night at Bear Country 95.3, with a much anticipated girls matchup between the Frontier Redhawks and Greenfield Green Wave. The game starts at 7:00 pm at Nichols Gymnasium at Greenfield High School. You can listen to the game online at bear953.com.
