DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — River Road in Deerfield was closed due to a tree and utility pole down across the road Monday afternoon during the high wind event. Eversource responded quickly to make repairs necessary to reopen the road. Leverett Fire Department responded to downed wires caught on fire on Richardson Road at the intersection with North Leveret Road. The live power line melted portions of the pavement, roads were closed until Eversource could de-energize the line.
The wind also brought down trees in Orange where fire crews and National Grid responded to clear roadways. Officials reminded the public to not attempt to clear roadways themselves and always assume downed wires are live.
