(Turners Falls, MA) The Farren building on Montague City Road in Turners Falls was closed in April of 2021 as Trinity Health, the operating company, said the building would require costly updates to continue. All residents of the Farren were offered spaces at the Mount St. Vincent Care Center in Holyoke. Trinity Health recommended demolition in November 2021, but has only just filed the demolition permit on October 12th. Because the building was deemed “Historically Significant” the demolition has been delayed and a public hearing will be held with the Historical Commission. The public and potential developers have the opportunity to bring ideas to the table for the property. Should the building be demolished, it is estimated to cost $5 million and will require a lengthy abatement period of up to a year, part of which will be to clear asbestos.
