SHELBURNE FALLS, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — What started as a chimney fire, quickly turned into a second alarm structure fire on South Maple Street in Shelburne Falls Saturday night. Both residents of the home were evacuated safely, and one minor injury was reported according to the Shelburne Falls Fire District.
The fire was reported at 9:13 p.m. and when police arrived on scene finding fire in the walls on the first and second floors, and into the attic, a second alarm was struck. Crews remained on scene until approximately 1:30 a.m. checking for overhaul.
The residence sustained smoke and water damage and is currently uninhabitable.The residents spent the night at a local inn.
On scene were firefighters from Shelburne Falls, Buckland, Colrain, Charlemont, Greenfield, Shelburne, Conway, Gill, Bernardston, Deerfield, Turners Falls, Ashfield, and Florida, as well as the Shelburne Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.
