The Athol Fire Department recently received a grant to put numbers on the homes of senior citizens that do not currently have them. The $5000 grant came from AARP and will cover the cost of purchasing home numbers for the mailbox and the home itself.
According to Athol Fire Chief Joseph Guarnera, properly numbered homes increases fire and ambulance times and there is a town bylaw that requires homes to be numbered.
