GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Greenfield Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for their fourth annual Human Rights Award. The award recognizes a community member who exemplifies the commission’s values of promoting a positive community and uniting people.

Nominations will be accepted until Tuesday, December 3rd at 5 p.m. and then Commissioners will vote anonymously for a winner, who will have their name engraved on the HRC award plaque. Last year’s winner was Gloria Matlock, recognized for her indelible impact on Greenfield.

Human Rights Commission Seeks Nominees for Greenfield Human Rights Award

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Human Rights Commission is seeking nominees for the fourth Greenfield Human Rights Commission Award. The award recognizes an individual in the community who exemplifies the commission’s values, including promoting a positive community and uniting people together based on our similarities and differences.

The Human Rights Commission will accept the Human Rights Award nominations until Tuesday, December 3, at 5 p.m. The HRC members will then vote anonymously to select an award winner. The winner will be recognized at the Human Rights Award ceremony and will have their name engraved on the HRC Award plaque at City Hall at a later date.

To qualify, all nominees must:

1. Be a Greenfield resident.

2. Must be 15 years or older.

3. The nominee must represent the values of the Human Rights Commission outside of a work setting.

The award ceremony is tentatively scheduled for the evening of Monday, December 9 at the John Zon Community Center. The ceremony coincides with National Human Rights Day on December 10.

The Greenfield Human Rights Commission reinstituted the Human Rights Award in 2023 after the ceremony was inactive for several years. Last year’s winner was Gloria Matlock. Matlock was recognized for the indelible impact she continues to make in Greenfield through her roles as a board director for Stone Soup Cafe, coordinator for racial justice events and assisting early education through the “Twice As Smart” after-school program she has organized.
