TURNERS FALLS, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Another brush fire broke out Monday afternoon, this time on Turnpike Road in Turners Falls. Arriving crews found a fast moving fire threatening multiple structures.
Over three-quarters of an acre burned, sparking from the embers of a permitted burn pile that spread to nearby leaf litter.
Area fire officials including those of the Goshen and Ashfield Fire Departments have commented on the current fire conditions and why there have been fewer days of issues burn permits this spring, all leading back to the drought conditions that led to an unprecedented fire season last fall.
The dry conditions left more ground litter, and the dryness continues this spring, combined with high winds that have led to increased chances for rapidly spreading fires.
