(Boston, MA) Joe Kennedy, Congressman for the First District of Boston and Senate hopeful against Ed Markey made statements earlier today on social media regarding June Pride Month. Kennedy said Pride Month has always been his favorite time of the year, especially the Pride Parade that marches down the streets of Boston.

”It is an amazing celebration of pride, individuality, and freedom,” said Kennedy.

Kennedy remarked that it is hard, in the current historical moment that the country is facing, to remark on Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender rights in the United States, However, Kennedy did point out that a trans woman of color has a life expectancy of 35 years old. Kennedy reflected on the Stonewall Riots, when police officers moved into arrest patrons at a gay bar and the patrons refused. The resistance was started by a black trans woman named Martha Johnson, who threw a shot glass at a mirror and started the Stonewall Riots.
