(Leverett, MA) — Firefighters from several Franklin County towns were called in to battle a brush fire last night in the town of Leverett. Fire department officials say roughly an acre was scorched as the result of the blaze, which was apparently the result of leftover embers from a previously permitted burn. State officials say the dry weather combined with recent windy conditions have created ideal conditions for potentially damaging brush fires, and people should make sure fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area after a permitted burn.
