(Leverett, MA) The Leverett Select Board renewed anti racism sentiment passed in policy changes last year. While these policies are a year old, they have renewed meaning in light of the killing of George Floyd. These policies, that were implemented by the chief, deal with ICE enforcement and language barriers in the town. Leverett Police Department will not honor or enforce any detainer request from the United States Government Immigration Customs Enforcement or ICE, that is non-criminal and does not have an accompanying warrant. Second, Leverett Police Department shall provide police services to apprehended individuals in their native language, if possible. To read the policy changes click here.
