GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — All canoeists and kayakers must wear life jackets on the water from September 15th through May 15th, according to Massachusetts law. The U.S. Coast Guard reported 365 drownings in 2024, 310 of those deaths were individuals not wearing life jackets.
