GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The high school spring sports season is nearing its conclusion, with several local teams in the hunt for sectional championships.

The Greenfield softball team, the two-time defending state champions, easily cruised into the WMass Final Four in Class C with a 12-0 five-inning victory over Westfield Tech Wednesday evening at Vets Field. Kenzie Paulin struck out 14 Tigers batters and also smacked a home run to send the Green Wave into the semifinals, where they will host McCann Tech of North Adams Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.

In the other Class C semifinal, Franklin Tech, which went undefeated in league play and secured the second seed, will host #3 Drury this afternoon at 4:30.

The GHS baseball team also punched its ticket into the semifinals in Class C. The Green Wave took a 4-0 lead over Athol on Tuesday night when the game was suspended due to the severe weather that hit the area. The game was resumed yesterday, and the Wave completed a dominant victory, 18-0.

Tonight, it’s a local vs. local showdown in the Class D baseball semifinals. the top-seeded Pioneer Panthers host the #4 seed Turners Falls Thunder in Northfield. First pitch is at 6:00. You can hear that game on Bear Country 95.3 and at bear953.com. 

Tomorrow night, in the Class D softball tournament, top-seed Turners Falls plays host to fourth-seeded Hopkins Academy.
