(Franklin County, MA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is coming this Saturday with a host of organizations working together to help prevent misuse and accidental ingestion of prescriptions. 5 locations in Franklin County will provide safe ways to dispose of unwanted medications including police departments in Deerfield, Sunderland, Montague, and Leverett and the Walmart on East Main Street in Orange. Nearly 70,000 pounds of prescription drugs have been collected since 2011.

“It’s crucial to remain vigilant about removing drugs from homes to prevent misuse,” said Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan. “It’s really common sense: In the midst of an overdose epidemic, prescription drugs must not be allowed to sit around. It’s much safer for children, teens and even pets to remove these substances from homes, not to mention our friends and loved ones struggling with addiction.”
