(Colrain, MA) Colrain rescue crews, along with mutual aid from Charlemont, Buckland, and Whitingham Vermont searched Catamount State Forest for a lost hiker over the weekend. At about 2:22 pm on Sunday, crews were called to the Catamount State Forest for reports of a lost hiker. The hiker was located between east Catamount and Stacy Road. The hiker was uninjured and escorted back to the roadway. Colrain Fire Chief Nick Anzuoni said the hiker got lost on the trails due to the confusing nature of the layout.
“It’s real easy to think you’re on a main trail but then you’re not where you thought you were” said Anzuoni.
Anzuoni said there is a combination of marked trails, private land, and make shift trails that people create that are not real trails. He believes the hiker got onto one of the make shift trails without realizing it. The dispatcher was able to ping off the hiker’s cell phone, so he was located swiftly.
