BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted on Tuesday to implement new admissions regulations for Career Technical Education schools, such as the Franklin County Technical School who opposed the new regulations.
The Board voted to require CTE schools to use a lottery system when there are more applicants than available seats, with local control over how to or if they should weight student applicants.
The changes stem from arguments that it has historically been more difficult for diverse students to enter CTE schools, however CTE school officials argue factors such as disciplinary reports and interviews contribute to identifying student readiness for alternative learning environments.
