(Greenfield, MA) As the City works towards a construction start date in Fall 2026, the Main Street Redesign Project will hold a second community workshop on Thursday, June 22nd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center.
Project goals include safety infrastructure upgrades, a safer intersection at Main and Hight Streets, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and accessible sidewalks and ramps. Greenfield is working with Fuss & O’Neill engineers and community input for the design that stretches .7 miles from 100 feet east of Colrain Street to High Street. The conceptual design plans will be shared at the June 22nd meeting for further feedback before submitting the designs to MassDOT this fall.
“If you have ideas about the configuration of parking, crosswalks or bicycle lanes on Main Street, now is the time to weigh in, so that feedback can be included in the design process,” said Mayor Roxann Wedegartner. “Though we’re working toward the 25% design, the time to voice your ideas is now, because many key decisions are made in this stage before MassDOT begins its review.”
Mayor Roxann Wedegarnter has appropriated $288,900 in capital funding for this design phase of the project, the project totals $7.8 million which is to be funded by the state and federal government.
