WESTWOOD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Massachusetts drivers received some good news this weekend. After weeks of surging gasoline prices, the average gas price in Massachusetts is down two cents over the last week, averaging $3.58 a gallon. Today’s price is 22 cents higher than a month ago and 14 cents higher than what we were paying at this time a year ago. The Massachusetts average price is 3 cents lower than the national average. The dip in price was welcome news for drivers, as it came at a time when prices typically surge ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

“Growing inventories and middling consumption are pushing prices down,” according to AAA Northeast. “This should be welcome news for some of the nearly 44 million people AAA is forecasting to travel over the holiday weekend. Lower prices at the pump means more money in the pocket for lodging, souvenirs, and admission to parks and events.”
