(Boston, MA) — High school sports in Massachusetts will start a little late than usual this fall.
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Board of Directors voted Tuesday to start the fall sports season on September 14, as recommended by a special COVID 19 Task Force which had been studying the issue. MIAA officials say the extra two weeks will give the organization and its member schools additional time to get more acclimated with new state safety standards intended to try and control the spread of the virus.
The new timeline is contingent adherence with additional state guidelines expected to be issued by the commonwealth prior to the start of the new school year.
