(undated) — The Massachusetts Senate has approved a bill which supporters say could help avert an egg shortage. The legislation alters a 2016 ballot law which regulates how much space is required for pigs, calves and egg-laying hens to live. Proponents say the change is warranted due to standards and practices changes in the egg production industry. Opponents say the Legislature should not be making any changes to voter-approved laws. The House and Governor Baker have not yet acted on the proposal.
