(Franklin County, MA) As part of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s 2030 Solid Waste Master Plan, MassDEP has expanded its current list of items banned from disposal. Now included in the banned waste disposal list are mattresses and textiles, effective November 1st, 2022.
Franklin County Solid Waste Management is working with Bernardston, Colrain, Deerfield, Montague, and Wendell to accept clean, dry mattresses and box springs for recycling. Mattress recycling sites will open October 24th at the Bernardston, Colrain, Deerfield, Montague, Wendell, and Greenfield transfer stations will charge $35 per mattress or box spring. The Greenfield DPW, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County and the Heartstrings Foundation run a textile recycling program the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month at the Chapman/Davis Municipal Parking Lot in Greenfield.
