GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield Mayor Ginny Desorgher and the Central Maintenance Department announced Monday that City Hall will be closed for up to two days in early January to address ongoing issues with sewage backups. According to the announcement, the recent sewage backups have been caused by the broken building trap that was put in over 100 years ago.
The employees in City Hall will have access to a bathroom upstairs, but the downstairs public restroom will be closed until the repairs are made to take pressure off the system. And public meetings scheduled to be held in the City Hall Meeting Room will be held virtually until the bathroom reopens.
Officials say the plan is to close City Hall on the first or second Friday in January, but updates will be provided when the work is scheduled.
