(GREENFIELD, MA) — Greenfield Mayor Roxann Wedegartner appeared on ‘The Valley’s Morning Show with Nick Danjer” on WHAI Radio Wednesday morning, and expressed optimism on several fronts in the city’s battle against the COVID 19 pandemic. Wedegartner said the rate of increase in new cases has been slowing in recent days, the number of deaths due to the virus has held steady, and the number of recoveries has increased. Wedegartner credited  the public for these most recent numbers.

“We feel like the people of Greenfield have done what we’ve asked them to do, for the most part” in terms of safety protocols, such as social distancing. The mayor went on to say that while she and others at City Hall are “cautiously optimistic” about the trend, there is acknowledgment that the state is in the crucial time period this week and next where there is a strong likelihood of new cases emerging.

Wedegartner has submitted her budget for fiscal ’21, and says despite the logistical challenges of the pandemic, the budget process is on schedule and is ahead of where the city was this time last year, when the ratification of the budget was delayed for several months.
