(GREENFIELD) – The city of Greenfield is working with local service agencies to assist homeless residents during the COVID 19 pandemic. Greenfield Mayor Roxann Wedegartner says a series of large tents have been set up nest the ServiceNet shelter on Wells Street.
“The tents have been ordered through and set up by MEMA, and they are there in case we need them,” Wedegartner said. “ServiceNet is working to develop a shelter on the second floor, and the first line of defense will be to use that as overflow as soon as possible.”
The ServiceNet facility was originally established after a homeless encampment was set up on the town common in 2018. Medical experts remain concerned for the potential of coronavirus to spread rapidly among homeless populations. The city recently installed hand sanitizer units downtown in an effort to halt the spread of contagion.
