(FRANKLIN, MA) — The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association has voted unanimously to hold sectional-only tournaments this spring for state high school sports. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the spring sports season has yet to get underway, and there is no guarantee it ever will. The MIAA Board of Directors met via conference call on Monday, and voted 18-0 to forego the usual season format, which culminates in state championship tournaments. Instead, contingent on schools re-opening, the seedings for baseball, softball, and tennis will be set on June 13, with the tournaments to run from June 15 through the sectional championships on June 27. June 28 has been set aside as a rain date for the championships. Schools in Massachusetts are closed until at least May 4. Any further delay in the re-opening of schools would put the agreed-upon tournament plan, as well as the regular season, in peril.
