(Buckland, MA) The Mohawk Summer Recreation Camp has been cancelled for 2020. On Tuesday, May 26 the Buckland Selectboard accepted a letter from Camp Director Raelene Lemoine, indicating that she could not run the camp under the threat of COVID-19 and the current guidelines put out by the State of Massachusetts.
“With the constant worry of whether we have cleaned and disinfected enough to ensure our campers have a safe experience and wearing masks during 90 degree days, it just seems unattainable,” said Lemoine in a letter to parents and families.
In the letter, Lemoine said while the Mohawk Summer Recreation Camp is the first camp locally to cancel the 2020 season, she does not think it will be the last. Requirements for social distancing, sanitation, and virus prevention were key in the decision to cancel this year.
“A socially distant summer camp without the kids favorites, four square and swimming, is no summer camp at all,” said Lemoine.
