(Montague, MA) – The federal government has reached agreement with a Montague company over violations of the Clean Water Act. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reached a settlement with Greenleaf Foods, SPC — also known as Lightlife Foods — to address violations of pretreatment regulations at its soy-based food production facility. The investigation revealed that the facility discharged low-pH wastewater into the town’s sewer system. The company will pay a $252,000 dollar fine and must install a new pre-treatment system to ensure that the problem doesn’t occur again.
