(Montague, MA) A collapsed sewer main on Montague City Road has caused sewer back ups for Montague residents. The emergency repair work on the sewer main and failed pipe require the help of an outside contractor as the pipe is twelve feet below ground and beyond the ability of the DPW equipment.

Town Adminstrator Steve Ellis wrote to Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance Commissioner Carol Gladstone to waive the bidding advertisement requirements due to the emergency situation. The Montague Selectboard has contracted Greenfield’s C.D. Davenport and will use $165,000 from the town’s ARPA funding. The project will include replacing a 340 foot sewer line made of clay with a new plastic pipe.
