(Montague, MA) The Montague Public Library is teaming up with the City, Great Falls Discovery Center, RiverCulture, and local historians for a series on the history of the Canal District. The series kicks off on September 22nd with a viewing of the draining of the canal. The event will begin at the Great Falls Discovery Center and will walk along the Canalside Rail Trail.
The series will continue with monthly events for the next seven months and will include historical presentations and tours of the canal. This series coincides with the Canal District Redevelopment master planning workshops. The town is working towards a mixed-use canal district in the sixteen acres it occupies alongside the Connecticut River. Currently, two projects are underway. The Griswold Cotton Mill clean-up and the 5th Street Pedestrian Bridge Improvement/Canal District Gateway Enhancement Project.
