(Charlemont, MA) A North Adams woman, Melissa Repka, pleaded not guilty in Greenfield District Court Tuesday after being charged in connection with the April crash  that resulted in the death of Gregory Herzig of Colrain on Route 2 in Charlemont. 38 year-old Repka was charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and failure to yield the right of way after the State Police investigation found that Repka was at fault in the crash wherein Repka attempted a u-turn putting her directly in the path of Herzig’s motorcycle. Repka has been ordered not to operate a motor vehicle while the case is pending and a pretrial conference has been set for November 15th.

04/12/23 Update Around 1 p.m. a Harley Davidson motorcycle struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee heading eastbound on Route 2 in Charlemont as the Jeep was attempting a U-turn. The motorcycle rider has been identified as Gregory Herzig, 66 years-old from Colrain. Herzig was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center where he passed away due to injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police, State Police Collison Analysis, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

A motorcycle versus vehicle accident has been reported on Route 2 in Charlemont just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12th. A section of Route 2 in the area of the Academy at Charlemont has been closed, drivers should seek an alternate route. Updates to come.
