CHICOPEE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Police are cracking down on the “Move Over” law after a State Trooper was allegedly struck by Naisha Rodriquez in Chicopee Tuesday during a traffic stop.
The law intends to protect those who work along roadways, by having drivers move into another lane when possible if emergency responders or workers are stopped on the road or to reduce speed if not possible. The penalties for not heeding the law include fines, legal consequences, and safety risks.
This year alone over 4,400 citations have been written for violations.
Rodriquez appeared in court Wednesday and was ordered held on a $500,000 cash bail with conditions for release including GPS monitoring and alcohol testing.
