Greenfield Light and Power Announces Eversource Basic Service Price Change for February

GREENFIELD – As part of Greenfield Light & Power’s commitment to serving the community with full transparency, this notification is to alert Greenfield’s electricity customers that there is an upcoming drop in Eversource’s Basic Service prices for the months of February through July 2025.

For the next 6-month Basic Service period, from February 1 to July 31, Eversource’s residential basic service price will drop from the current 14.023 cents/kWh to 11.719 cents/kWh. This change will go into effect on February 1 and remain effective through July 31.

In comparison, Greenfield Light & Power offers long-term fixed prices that do not change seasonally. The Budget option in Greenfield Light & Power will remain at 13.183 cents/kWh through January 2026. For an average residential customer using 550 kWh per month, this is a $8.06 per month price difference for this 6-month period.

Because Eversource’s prices change so frequently, it is normal for Eversource’s price to sometimes drop below the program price in municipal electricity programs like Greenfield’s. A key benefit of Greenfield Light & Power is that its prices are stable and do not change with the electricity market. Program price stability also provides protection from Eversource price increases.

Participants in Greenfield Light & Power still have the potential to save compared with the average of Eversource’s changing prices. Over the past 12 months, participants in the Greenfield Light & Power Budget option have saved an average of $9.53 per month compared to Eversource’s Basic Service price. And since the program launched in 2015, Greenfield Light & Power customers have saved roughly $7 million compared with Eversource’s prices. As an added benefit, all participants in Greenfield Light & Power receive 100 percent of their electricity from renewable sources.

Participants in Greenfield Light & Power are free to opt out of the program at any time with no penalty or fee. However, program prices are not guaranteed for those who opt out and then wish to return to the program in the future, and changes can take up to two billing cycles to appear on the bill. Participants can opt out at GreenfieldLightAndPower.com or by calling program customer support at 844-483-5004.

“There are amazing low or no cost programs to help people improve the efficiency of their buildings whether they rent or own,” said Energy and Sustainability Director Carole Collins. “By scheduling a no-cost MassSave home energy assessment, you can be on the way to saving up to 20% on heating costs by insulating and sealing your home, not just for this winter, but for each year after.”

She continued, “The energy assessment also opens the door to the 0% HEAT Loan program to replace aging heating systems and windows with high-efficiency options that can deliver dramatic cost savings and improved comfort.”

“I am pleased to continue the Greenfield Light & Power program into its 11th year to provide the community with choice and pricing stability, while also delivering 100 percent green electricity to Greenfield electricity customers,” said Mayor Virginia “Ginny Desorgher. “We also encourage residents and business owners to take advantage of the great rebates and incentives available to help lower their energy bills by improving the energy efficiency of their homes or businesses.”
