(Boston, MA) A voter-approved law setting new regulations for the treatment of livestock, specifically prohibiting sales of pork that were housed in tightly packed farms, will be effective in Massachusetts on August 24th. Also included in this law voted on in 2016 was the prohibition of sales of egg and veal from animals living in cruel conditions, those regulations have already taken effect while the pork portion was held up in legal battles. The regulations sate that pigs must have enough room to lie down, stand up, and turn around freely while extending their limbs. Massachusetts will not allow the sale of pork from pigs denied such space, even if they were not raised in state.
