AMHERST, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Diane Chamberlain has been appointed as the new Principal of Summit Academy, the special education day school within Amherst-Pelham Regional High School. Superintendent Dr. E Xiomara Herman called Chamberlain commitment to student-centered education has been “clear and unwavering.” Chamberlain will begin her new role in August.

Principal of Summit Academy
Amherst, MA — The Amherst-Pelham Regional School District is pleased to announce that Diane Chamberlain has been appointed as the new Principal of Summit Academy, effective August 1, 2025.
Chamberlain brings nearly 30 years of educational experience to her new role, including more than a decade in school and district leadership. Most recently, she has served as Assistant Principal at Wildwood Elementary School, where she has been instrumental in supporting students and staff across programs.
Her prior leadership positions include serving as Principal at Fort River Elementary School (2016–2021), Assistant Principal at Amherst Regional High School (2009–2013), and Interim Assistant Principal at Amherst Regional Middle School (2008–2009). In addition to her extensive local experience, Chamberlain has held positions in special education, international education, and restorative practices.
Chamberlain, a veteran educator and district leader, brings extensive experience and a long-standing connection to the Summit community. From 2005–2008, she served as Summit’s Program Coordinator. Her return is described by Superintendent Dr. E. Xiomara Herman as “a full-circle moment, rich with purpose and possibility.”
“Every interaction I’ve had with Diane has centered around one clear and unwavering question: What do we need to do for every learner?” said Dr. Xi. “Her commitment to inclusive, student-centered education is evident in both her words and actions.”
Summit Academy serves as a unique educational setting within the Amherst-Pelham Regional Schools, providing targeted, supportive instruction for students in grades 7–12. The district looks forward to Chamberlain’s continued impact in her new role.
