GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — All residents are safe after a fire broke out at a two-family home on Elm Street in Greenfield Wednesday afternoon. A resident and her young child were home when the fire broke out and were alerted by a Berkshire Gas employee to get out of the house. Elm Street was temporarily closed between Colrain and Phillips Streets while crews were on scene.

Firefighters from Greenfield, Turners Falls Bernardston, Deerfield, and Northfield  arrived at 20 Elm Street at approximately 2 p.m. and found fire and smoke coming from the rear of the residence. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire within an hour of their arrival. The fire caused significant damage to the rear exterior of the building and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
