NORTH QUABBIN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Department of Conservation and Recreation, DCR, has announced the acquisition of three parcels of private-owned property in Wendell, Orange, and Royalston totaling 380 acres of land. The parcels will now be protected for the future through the DCR’s Land Protection Program.

The DCR Commissioner Nicole LaChapelle, said “By securing these parcels, we’re fighting climate challenges in a way people can see and feel – preserving open spaces, protecting wildlife, and making sure our kids and grandkids have access to nature close to home.”

In Wendell, 113 acres will be added to the Wendell State Forest, the Royalston State Forest will grow by 162 acres, and 105 acres in Orange will go to protecting the Quabbin Reservoir watershed.
