(Greenfield, MA) — A Northampton man has been arraigned on motor vehicle homicide charges in connection with the death of a Shelburne Falls woman who was hit while walking along Route 2 this week. Peter Toomey was arraigned in Greenfield District Court on Wednesday afternoon on charges related to a hit-and-run accident that killed 45-year-old Rhonda Thompson. The 51-year-old Toomey was ordered held on $25,000 dollars bail, and was ordered to surrender his license and not leave the state as a condition of any bail release. Toomey had originally told investigators that the damage to his truck was caused by an accident involving a deer the previous day. Another hearing in the case is scheduled for July 8th.
