(Northampton) Starting April 16, Public Health Director Merridith O’Leary issued new orders to all consumers and employees in Northampton. Starting Thursday, all consumers and employees must wear face masks in Northampton when social distancing measures cannot be maintained and at any business that is considered to be essential. This new order is in compliance with CDC guidelines, issued on April 3, and state guidelines issued on April 10, asking the public to wear face masks when safe social distancing measures are not possible.
”You don’t need a surgical mask,” said Mayor David Narkewicz. “We need those for our healthcare workers and first responders.”
A face covering, combined with appropriate hand washing and social distancing, can be effective when residents need to go out to purchase food or medicine. However, Northampton residents are encouraged to remain at home unless they absolutely need to go out.
