(Northfield, MA) Northfield Fire Chief Floyd Dunnell III said the fire at Four Star Farms Brewery was due to a missing joint in the special chimney made for the extremely high temperatures of the boiler. When the boiler is in use, it gets up to about 1,400 degrees. In this case, a joint was missing in the special chimney. Over a period of two to four hours, the chimney ignited the insulation in the attic. Since the area of the brewery is in a no hydrant zone, a first alarm was triggered. However, there was no structural damage to the building.
