(Northfield, MA) In order to bring Northfield’s wastewater treatment plant into compliance with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, the town will have to invest in costly upgrades that will in turn, increase rates for residents and businesses. The Board of Sewer Commissioners has proposed a rate increase of about 41% for residents to pay for the projects. The increase proposal will need to be approved by the Finance Committee before it goes to the Town Meeting, and could potentially be in place as soon as this summer.
