(Orange, MA) Several students at Dexter Park Elementary School in Orange were brought to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after coming into contact with gun containing high levels of pepper. The Superintendent, Orange Fire Department, and Orange Police Department made a join statement on the incident.
In the statement it says a student bought gum online and allegedly gave it to other students at recess. Students who came into contact with the gum seemingly suffered reactions such as skin and eye irritations, or if ingested, may have experienced burning in their mouths and esophagus.
According to the Orange Fire Department, six children were transported by ambulances “with multiple others transported by parents and several others evaluated by our agency.”
The incident was declared an MCI, meaning there were more patients than available resources, allowing emergency responders to call in additional aid.
Dr. Liz, the district Superintendent, wrote “The situation is still an active investigation with safety personnel as well as the school’s own investigation. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken upon completion of the investigation.”
