(Orange, MA) The Orange Police Department has released more information regarding a stabbing that occurred yesterday in Orange. A 29 year old man named James Gonzales entered the home of a 71 year old woman and began stabbing her immediately. According to Orange Police Chief James Sullivan, Gonzales allegedly left multiple stab wounds on the victim. Gonzales also allegedly punched the victim. A 15 year old grandson was able to fight off Gonzales and get him out of the home. Gonzales suffered an injury to his hand and was transported to Athol Hospital. The victim was transported to UMass Trauma Center by helicopter where she is recovering from her injuries.
Gonzales is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person 60 years or older, assault to murder while armed on a person age 60 or older, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, home invasion, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery on a person sixty years of age or older who is also disabled. Police believe this was a targeted attack and Gonzales poses no further danger to the public.
