(BOSTON)– Massachusetts is edging closer to the next step of a phased reopening from the Covid 19 pandemic. The state began the process earlier this month with allowing businesses and industries that operated with limited face-to-face contact to reopen. Phase 2 could begin on June 8, with restaurants and lodging facilities expanding their services.

Restaurants will be allowed to offer outdoor seating, with indoor seating being permitted later in Phase 2. Social distancing and hygiene standards and protocols must be implemented and adhered to. Tables will be spaced at a distance of 6 feet, and there will be limit of 6 people per party.

Lodging facilities, such as hotel, motels, inns, and bed-and-breakfasts, and other such business will be allowed to expand services in Phase 2. On site pools, gyms, spas, golf courses, restaurants and other amenities will be allowed to operate at these lodging facilities. However, ballrooms and meeting rooms will remain closed.

State health officials will monitor the coronavirus data from June 1 to June 6 before a final decision is made on the launch of Phase 2 on June 8.
