NORTHFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The top-seeded and unbeaten Pioneer boys basketball team made quick work of the 17th-seeded Cougars of Old Colony Regional Voc-Tech Tuesday night, cruising to a 75-43 Round of 16 victory at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.

Brayden Thayer had six three-pointers, five in the third quarter alone, on the way to a game-high 23 points. Kurt Redeker added 19 points and Alex McClelland scored 18 in a game where the Panthers at one point led by 33.

Pioneer will host the quarterfinal matchup against either eighth-seeded Fenway or ninth-seeded Ware. Those two teams square off in Boston tonight. The date and time of the quarterfinal will be announced after the conclusion of the Fenway-Ware game.

The Greenfield and Mahar boys basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end in Boston Tuesday night. The Green Wave fell in double-overtime to O’Bryant, 70-67, while the Senators lost to defending state champion New Mission, 68-45.

Wednesday night, the Frontier Red Hawks take on Bourne in the State Girls Division 4 Round of 32. Tipoff is set for 6:30 on Cape Cod.
