GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — At Thursday’s Greenfield Planning Board Meeting, members discussed five proposed zoning amendments that would allow multifamily dwellings by right in the Semi-Resdential district while also raising the maximum number of units allowed per building,
Amendments to the Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance were also discussed to bring the city in alignment with the Affordable homes Act signed by Governor Healey, which goes into effect in early 2025.
Planning Board members discussed the proposal to allow medical centers and clinics by right in the Central Commercial District, which includes Downtown Main Street and that there are several medical centers/clinics currently operating in this space without a permit. The amendment would save the city the resources it would take to go after each facility for proper permitting.
Residents spoke at the meeting about concerns with allowing various site uses “by right” as it removes reviewing measures such as opportunities to garner public and abutter input on projects.
The Planning Board will hold a joint public hearing with the Economic Development Committee on Thursday, November 7th at 6:30 p.m. to allow residents to weigh in on the proposed zoning amendments.
