(Greenfield, MA) A 73 year old Greenfield man is receiving national media attention after being attacked by a beaver in what is being described as a “life or death” fight in a Greenfield pond. Mark Pieraccini reportedly suffered injuries during the attack on September 6 and came close to drowning. He is undergoing treatment for rabies and for his other injuries including a fractured knuckle from repeatedly punching the beaver. Beaver attacks in Massachusetts are rare and officials are concerned that the Beaver may be rabid.
